NIOS is an acronym which stands for National Institute of Open Schooling. It is an
independent body under the Ministry of Human Resources Development (formerly
Education Ministry) with its own curriculum and examination leading to Nationwide &
even Worldwide recognised certification. It is on par with the CBSE/ICSE/Cambridge/IB/State Boards.
NIOS is the largest Open Schooling system in the world with cumulative enrolment of
4.13 million (during last 5 years).

 

A hallmark of the NIOS Board is the wide flexibility that it offers in terms of the choice of
subjects.
Further, students may complete their Grade X or XII according to their own pace.
NIOS helps students to simultaneously purse their passions, other courses, careers or
work on their skills & talents while completing their academic requirement like Grade
X or XII.
